Governor announces $50,000 grant to upgrade Triana park
Published 10:11am Tuesday, August 24, 2010A park in Madison County will get some welcome renovations, thanks in part to a $50,000 grant, Gov. Bob Riley announced.
The grant was awarded to the town of Triana to upgrade its Flamingo Park. The project will include the installation of lighting and new playground equipment and the repaving of the park’s basketball courts. Total cost for the renovations is anticipated to be about $100,000, with the town providing the additional $50,000.
“I am pleased to support these upgrades which will allow the residents of Triana to enjoy Flamingo Park for many more years to come,” Riley said.
Flamingo Park is situated on a tract of land near the Tennessee River that was first leased to the town for recreation in 1959. The park has experienced high usage in the decades since.
The grant is being administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs as part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund program. LWCF was created in 1967 by Congress and assists states with the development and preservation of outdoor recreational facilities.
