Matt Massey, math teacher at Buckhorn High School, was awarded with The National Math and Science Initiative’s All American Teacher of the Year Award in math. The awards are given to math, English and science teachers in NMSI’s Advanced Placement and Incentive Program. Massey is one of 23 award winners nationwide. Winners are given cash rewards and will be recognized at an awards luncheon in Washington, D.C.
ALFA has named Claudia Styles the Principal of the Month for June 2011. She will be given a cash award of $1,000, as well as $1,000 for Legacy Elementary School. In order to apply for the award, candidates were required to send in a copy of their resume, answer the questions “What is your philosophy on education?” and “How do you apply that philosophy?” and include two letters of support. At least three years of experience as a principal was required for eligibility.
