Huntsville resident opens FirstLight HomeCarePublished 2:37pm Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Having spent the last 12 years working as an account manager and representative in the electronic component and test and measurement industries, Huntsville resident David Burns knows that building relationships and establishing trust is a key element in any successful business.
Burns took this knowledge to heart and recently left his career to start building a different type of relationship; one that serves seniors and others in the community who are in need.
In March, he and wife Marie opened FirstLight HomeCare with partner David Monk, who is a former nurse practitioner with Huntsville Hospital. Located in Huntsville, the company provides professional, non-medical, in-home care services to seniors and others in need of assistance with daily activities in the Huntsville, Madison and Decatur areas.
“I’m eager to bring FirstLight HomeCare to my community in Huntsville and the surrounding areas,” Burns said. “As our nation’s demographic shifts, there is an extreme need for our services. These days, seniors want to remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. With a background in medicine and patient care, my business partner, David Monk, brings an added dimension to our ability to care for our clients.”
Burns and his wife Marie have been involved with caring for family members and friends over the years and have experienced first-hand the joys and challenges of caregiving. These experiences influenced him to open a business in the home care industry.
“After I witnessed what my wife and close friends experienced while they provided care for their aging parents, I realized what a challenge it is to find quality, professional help. I also wanted to find an opportunity that would allow me to serve others in our community in a meaningful way,” says Burns. “Not everyone has a friend or family member locally to assist them. This business gives us the chance to really make a difference in someone’s life.”
Founded in March 2010, Midwest-based FirstLight HomeCare creates a new standard in non-medical home care by combining best practices gained by a dynamic senior leadership team with innovative approaches to make this franchise an emerging market leader in a fast-growing industry.
Services can be provided at a private residence, assisted-living facility, retirement community, nursing home, skilled-nursing facility, adult family home or group home. Clients might also include new mothers, individuals recovering from surgeries and others. For more information, please visit www.firstlighthomecare.com or contact David Burns directly at 256-489-3542.
