Chat and dine with astronauts this summerPublished 3:32pm Monday, June 20, 2011
Every Friday during the summer the U.S. Space and Rocket Center is featuring Lunch with an Astronaut.
This Friday, June 24, astronaut Hoot Gibson will be featured. Gibson has flown five missions and spent 36.5 days in space, according to NASA’s website.
Charity Stewart, advertising and social media manager for Space Camp, said the astronauts featured give a short presentation on who they are and what their space mission involved. They also offer a question and answer session, as well as taking time for photos and autographs.
“You don’t have to be a museum guest or a camp attendee,” Stewart said. “It is first come, first serve.”
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Spacecamp.com/store/lunch.
Lunch is included in the ticket price.
“We usually do southern-style barbecue, so they can have pulled pork or chicken and all the sides to go along with it,” Stewart said. “They sit and eat, and the astronaut usually mingles while lunch is going on, then does their presentation and then chats with everyone.”
Stewart said it is open to all age groups.
She said it’s an opportunity to be hands-on with history and to be able to talk to astronauts who have made history.
