Huntsville’s New Century Technology makes America’s Best High School listPublished 12:35pm Wednesday, June 22, 2011
New Century Technology High School was chosen by Newsweek as one of America’s Best High Schools for 2011. They ranked No. 500 on the list.
New Century Technology has a graduation rate of 95 percent, and 88 percent of their students are college bound, according to Newsweek’s website.
“I think it just confirms and reaffirms our status as an elite school,” Principal Stewart Thorson said. “This is not the first time we’ve been nominated for things like that. We’ve been in other magazines.”
New Century Technology is a public school, but the enrollment is competitive.
“I think it’s also a sort of a confirmation of the incredible students that we have that score like they do on tests,” Thorson said.
He said it is an award for students and faculty. He especially commended the school’s faculty for this achievement.
“It’s certainly their award also,” Thorson said.
