O. Edward “Ed” Reid Jr., 79, of Huntsville died Tuesday, July 12 at home following a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, O.E. Reid Sr. and Margaret Leonard Reid.
Mr. Reid was a veteran, having served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a registered nuclear engineer and retired VP of Raytheon Corporation. Mr. Reid loved his family and was an avid camper, bass fisherman, hunter, gardener and woodworker. He jokingly called himself the “Mayor of Lily Flagg,” where he walked miles daily and greeted a large number of his neighbors.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 61 years, Christine Sanderson Reid; daughter, Patricia R. Gengozian and husband David of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; son, John Edward Reid and wife Linda of Middleburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Todd Nice of New York City, Donica N. Austin of Keller, Texas, Lt. Cmdr. Kristopher Reid, U.S. Navy, of Bellingham, Wash., Tate Nice, M.D., of Dallas, Travis Nice of Hewitt, Texas, Dana Rose of Bradenton, Fla., and Lauren Hamby of Gilbert, Ariz.; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will immediately follow with Mr. Reid’s brother, Ray Leonard Reid, of Atlanta delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
