Huntsville/Madison County Chamber gets new communications directorPublished 3:43pm Tuesday, October 11, 2011
The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber Of Commerce has a new communications director.
Patricia Cavanaugh McCarter officially took over the position Oct. 3 from her predecessor John Southerland.
Southerland is now the director of Cumming Research Park.
Southerland “I always respected the Chamber and the work they do, McCarter said. “I know they are quality people here that dedicated to a purpose I believe in promoting.”
McCarter was an award-winning reporter for The Huntsville Times from 2000-2010. She then worked as a technical writer for General Dynamics in Huntsville before coming to the Chamber.
“Patricia has a great communications and business background and is well-known in the Huntsville/Madison County community,” said Charlie Kettle, chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and president of First Commercial Bank. “She is a great hire for the Chamber and we are excited to have her on board.”
McCarter’s responsibly will include writing articles, taking pictures and helping promote chamber organizations.
“These are challenging times for businesses and industries everywhere,” she said. “I really look forward to getting out the word about what a great place Huntsville is for existing businesses or any businesses that would like to expand.”
McCarter is active in the community and is married to Huntsville Times columnist Mark McCarter. She has two sons, Miles Stumb, a sophomore at Auburn University, and Jackson Stumb, a sophomore at Huntsville High School, and a step-daughter, Jordan McCarter, coordinator of fraternity and sorority life at Texas Christian University.
