BJHS advances to championship match

The Bob Jones High School volleyball team defeated Enterprise and Oak Mountain in the Elite Eight state tournament Oct. 26 at the Pelham Civic Complex on its way to a berth in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A championship match.

Bob Jones will face two-time defending Class 6A champion Huntsville in the title match Oct. 27 at noon.

The Patriots dispatched Enterprise 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 in the Class 6A quarterfinals.

Drea Matthews led Bob Jones (42-13) with 15 kills in the quarterfinal match. Matthews also recorded five blocks and six digs.

Lauren Butler added nine kills, nine digs and one block. Alexis Howell contributed six kills and eight digs. Haley Hop finished with six kills and four digs.

Megan Butler finished with a team-high 32 assists. She also recorded two service aces, two blocks, one kill and one dig.

Bob Jones eliminated Oak Mountain in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 win in a Class 6A semifinal match.

Lauren Butler led the Patriots with 13 kills in the victory. She also recorded five service aces and five digs to go along with one block.

Hop added nine kills and one service ace to go along with a team-high 10 digs. Matthews finished with six kills, nine digs, three blocks and one service ace.

Howell contributed five kills, four digs and one block. Megan Butler registered a team-high 30 assists, along with two kills, three blocks and seven digs.
