Sex offender fugitive captured
Published 3:42pm Monday, October 31, 2011On Oct. 5, the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF), Huntsville office, and HPD Officers arrested a fugitive sex offender in Moulton who was wanted on outstanding state charges for community notification act and probation violation.
Kenny Dewayne Martin was being sought on a warrant issued in Madison County charging him with violation of community notification act and a warrant issued from Jefferson County for probation violation with the original offense of conspiracy to commit sodomy.
Martin is accused of absconding from his known residence and not providing Madison County or the City of Huntsville a written notice with his intent to move. Both warrants were issued in 2007.
In November of 2007, GCRFTF adopted the case and began investigating leads. GCRFTF learned that when Kenny Martin initially left the Madison County area, he relocated to the Miami, Florida area and was using the name Brent Martin. Prior to the USMS receiving this information, Martin had left that area. USMS interviewed family and friends all over the United States with negative results. Finally, a tip came in to the USMS that Martin had moved back in with his parents in Moulton.
GCRFTF went to their residence and arrested Martin without incident.
He is being held in the Madison County Metro Jail.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
The GCRFTF, Huntsville office, is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from Huntsville Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Florence Police Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and the Alabama Department of Corrections. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
