It was a busy night at the hospital for both coaches of Bob Jones basketball teams Saturday.

The two wins against Buckhorn came at a high cost for both the boys’ and girls’ Bob Jones basketball teams and players from both games had to be carried to Huntsville Hospital.

First, DeAisha Campbell injured her ankle when players dove at a ball and her ankle got caught underneath. She did not get up and eventually was carried from the court by two men and transported Huntsville Hospital. Head coach Tim Miller went to the hospital immediately after his team finished their game.

Campbell is a senior starter who is having an outstanding season. She did not sign an athletic scholarship in the recent early signing period but was known to have at least one offer to play in college.

In the boys’ game, Will Gibson lunged for a loose ball in mid-air and came down awkwardly on his right ankle. He immediately went down and trainers from The Orthopedic Center ran to assist. The game was stopped and an ambulance was called and Gibson was taken off on a stretcher with his lower leg stabilized.

Gibson is a senior who has played three seasons on the Bob Jones boys’ basketball team. He was a member of the state championship team in 2010.

“Our prayers are with Will. We are fixing to head over to the hospital and see how he is doing,” head coach Danny Petty said after the game.

“He was trying to make a play and just came down wrong. He’s a great kid and it’s just a shame.”
