Park dedicated to daughter killed in EF5 tornado

A Madison County couple have erected a park to honor the memory of their daughter.

Gilwood Park to be dedicated Friday

Ken and Cindy Mitchell lost their daughter during the violent tornado outbreak last April. Shannon Gail Rudd Sampson was killed as she tried to enter her home on Chipmunk Way in Limestone County to help her grandmother.

Mr. Mitchell spoke teary eyed about his daughter saying “All she could think about was getting to her grandmother, not thinking about her own safety just getting to her grandmother”

Ken and Cindy Mitchell are honoring their daughters memory as well as everyone else that was killed in Limestone and Madison Counties on the dreadful day with the dedication of Gilwood Park this Friday at 5 p.m.
