WAFF bringing back Weather Radio Wednesdays

Published 3:22pm Tuesday, May 29, 2012

WAFF 48 is doing its part to make sure the Tennessee Valley area is prepared during inclement weather.

WAFF-48-Storm Team-Meteorologist Brian-Fowler programs weather radios.

WAFF 48 is hosting Weather Radio Wednesdays, when they will program all weather radios free of charge.

“We want to make sure our community is safe and ready when severe weather strikes,” said Promotions Manager Roddette Moore. “Our hope is to connect with each community and make sure everyone is ready and safe.”

Moore said the station has program more than 1,000 radios since the end of March.

“We’re always dealing with weather events that concern everyone,” she said. “It’s always in everyone’s best interest in this area to own a weather radio.”

Information on how to program a radio can be found at in the weather section.

Storm Team Meteorologist Jeff Caste said a weather radio can sometimes be the only alert when dangerous weather is moving in, especially late at night.

“A weather radio does you no good if it’s not programmed properly,” Castle said.

WAFF is also looking for volunteers for Weather Wednesdays. Shifts start every three hours from 7a.m. to 7 p.m.

WAFF 48 does program weather radios during normal business hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) Monday through Friday at WAFF 48 Studios located at 1414 N. Memorial Pkwy in Huntsville.
