Overnight storms leave minor damagePublished 11:34am Monday, June 4, 2012
Strong to severe thunderstorms rocked Madison County late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
A major lightning show Sunday night kept fire crews across Madison County busy as they responded to about 12 structure fires caused by multiple lightning strikes. Fortunately, crews limited the damage in most of the homes to just minor damage to the attics and garages of those houses.
While most of the county saw rain and storms the strongest area hit was in Northwest Madison County around 1a.m. causing power outages and knocking down trees and limbs in Northwest Huntsville near Mastin Lake Road and Stringfield Road. According Huntsville Utilities crews worked overnight restoring power in Northwest Huntsville and Northwest Madison County repairing sporadic outages across Madison County. One outage spread from Hazel Green to the Tennessee line.
The SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has Madison County under a slight risk for severe weather again today and tonight as an additional wave of rain and storms will likely come in this evening into the overnight hours. Although the storms will not be as wide spread as Sunday night, some storms could be strong to severe with damaging wind and hail the primary threats.
