Bradford reunion concert this weekendPublished 1:38pm Friday, June 8, 2012
More than 50 years after forming, Nell Lane Bradford and Dr. Henry Bradford Jr. are reuniting 75 people to sing on “The Hill.”
The Bradford Reunion concert will be held June 9,at 5 p.m. at the Progressive Union Baptist Church, located at 1919 Brandontown Road.
The Bradfords have spent a total of 80 years in the department of music at Alabama A&M University.
The organizers began reaching out to former members last summer, and rehearsals began monthly in February with a “core” group from the surrounding area. Although some members have traveled from as far away as Mobile, Atlanta and Birmingham for some rehearsals, the “core” group is made up mostly of members from the area. From as far away as New England, other members have been practicing on their own, and all will join together for intense rehearsals two days prior to the concert date.
Dr. Anthony B. Stinson ‘80, Evelyn Lee Jones ‘82 and Dr. Terry Hazzard ‘79, former choir members and outstanding musicians, organized this effort that quickly drew responses from those who had sung under Nell Bradford’s direction from as far back as the 40s.
The concert is free and will be followed by a reception at the church
