Two local high school students have been selected to receive the Huntsville Community Chorus Association scholarship.
Both Melissa Taylor and Demi Vanderwerff were awarded the Turvey Scholarship, named after Kenneth Vernon Turgey, director emeritus of The Chorus at the time of his death.
The awards are based on the pursuit of vocal music studies in college.
Taylor is a Grissiom High School graduate. She plans to attend The University of Alabama in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s of music degree.
Vanderwerff, a Huntsville High School graduate, will pursue a bachelor of music in vocal performance degree at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
Residents of Madison County or who are involved with Madison County vocal groups are eligible to apply for future honoraria. For further information on HCCA and its scholarship programs, contact the office directly at (256) 533-6606.
