Crash on Memorial Parkway has two fatalities

Two people were killed in a three-vehicle accident on North Memorial Parkway at Winchester Road, according to Huntsville police.

The accident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. today.

One person has life threatening injuries and another has minor injuries. Both people with injuries were taken by HEMSI to Huntsville hospital. Police investigators said the southbound vehicle apparently crossed the median into the northbound lanes, causing the three-car pileup. One car was overturned.

Both northbound lanes are blocked and traffic is being diverted to Industrial Drive and Meridian Street. The southbound lanes are open.

Update:  John Marsh Certain, 37, and Samuel Pride, 74 were killed s a result of the collision.

Pride died at the scene. Certain was transported from the scene by HEMSI paramedics to Huntsville Hospital.

The accident occurred when Willie Lightford, 75, struck the driver’s side of the vehicle of Avis Marsh Certain, 61, when Lightford attempted to turn onto westbound Winchester Road from northbound Memorial Parkway. Avis Marsh Certain slid sideways through the median and into the northbound traffic lanes and another vehicle, driven by Pride.
