HUNTSVILLE — A special fund has been set up to honor the memory of former Huntsville City Councilwoman Sandra Moon.

The Community Foundation Huntsville/Madison County set up the fund for the longtime city councilwoman who passed away April 9 from complications of pancreatic cancer.

“”We are establishing the Sandra Moon Memorial Fund in order to generate money to address critical community needs,” Bob Ludwig, Chairman of the Community Foundation board said. ”Sandra cared deeply about this community. It was to her, as it is to so many, her adopted hometown. She worked to make it better in many, many ways. This fund will carry those efforts forward.”

Executive Director of the Foundation Lynne Berry said that it was an privilege to serve with Moon and that the foundation is a great way to honor her memory.

“”It has been my great pleasure and honor to work with Sandra from the time the Community Foundation here was only an idea,” she said. “The fund we are establishing in her memory will always remain in place. The donations made to this fund will never be spent, only the income it generates. Her fund kicks off an endowment set up to address the critical needs of this community.”

Those wishing to donate to the fund can make them out to the Sandra Moon Memorial Fund and mailed to the Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County at P. O. Box 332, Huntsville, AL, 35801.

Donations can also be  dropped off at the offices at the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce located at  225 Church St.
