HUNTSVILLE — A suspicious package found at a UPS distribution center on April 26 turned out to be harmless.
Huntsville Police said employees at the distribution center at 113 Winchester Road were evacuated in the early morning hours of April 26 after a “possible hazardous package” was detected.
“HPD was called to assist the Huntsville Fire Department Hazmat team with a leaking package at the UPS center that was also emitting noxious fumes,” Sgt. Ron Glass said. “Officers cleared the area and reopened Winchester Road at around 10:30 a.m.”
Investigators later determined the material inside the package was hydrogen peroxide.
Agencies across the nation have been on heightened alert since the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings that killed 3 after police allege two brothers dropped backpacks filled with explosives near the finish line.
