MADISON – A local ladies golf club played in pink for a great cause last Tuesday.
The Redstone Ladies Golf Association raised over $800 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Rally for the Cure. Club member Carol Darden said this year’s event was a success just like the ones in years passed.
“This year was fantastic,” she said. “We raised around $840 with all the proceeds going to the foundation. This event means a lot for us because we have some women in our group who are breast cancer survivors.”
It was Darden’s fifth time participating in the event ever since she moved down to Huntsville from Tullahoma, Tenn. about five years ago. The group of about 80 women in the Redstone Ladies Golf Association range from wives of engineers to retired military and play every Wednesday at the Links at Redstone.
“I love it,” Darden said. “I used to work when we lived in Tennessee but when we moved down here, my husband wanted me to relax and not have to worry about work. So I got involved in the club and have loved each and every moment since.”
Darden said the annual play dedication grows each year and she hopes to see it expand into a larger event.
“We kind of keep it simple,” she said. “But it tends to grow each year.”
