MAC announces 2013 Gazebo Concert lineupPublished 7:36pm Friday, May 10, 2013
MADISON – Sounds of rock, pop and barbershop will fill downtown for the 2013 Madison Gazebo Concerts.
Concert sponsor Madison Arts Council (MAC) announced the lineup this week. Concerts run from 6:30 to approximately 8:30 p.m. on the Village Green along Front Street. The Thursday evening concerts continue through August.
“The gazebo concerts are a free, family event,” MAC member Laura Pope said. “Bring your chairs or a blanket. We’ll have face painting and balloons for the children and free lemonade and cookies.”
Fender Bender opens the concert series on May 23. Debuting in 2012, band members are Joe Rogers on drums, Daryn Russell on bass and Scott Wagnon handling guitar and vocals. Fender Bender covers hits of the 1960s through today.
“Fender Bender rocks the city scene at well known venues in Huntsville and its surrounding area, community festivals and private engagements,” Pope said. Although organized for a short time, these veteran musicians earned an honorable mention to “Best Band Overall 2012″ by “Valley Planet” readers.
Inspired by classic and contemporary musicians, Fender Bender enjoys sharing their renditions of popular rhythm and blues, classic rock and dance tunes.
The remaining concert schedule includes venerable coolsters Microwave Dave & the Nukes on May 30. The Cadillacs will play 1950s-1960s rock on June 6. Local bands The Zooks and Stand Up Chuck will entertain on June 13 and 20. Barbershop by Rocket City Chorus and Southern Splendor is scheduled June 27.
In July, bluester Jimmy Henderson and Winslow Davis with jazz fusion will appear. Mary Justice Lucas will welcome guests Matt Morrow and Emma Klein to the stage. Shane Adkins will share country charts, and Elle Maze will sing a blend of pop, rock and jazz.
In August, country artist Ragen Ivey will perform. Slip Jig will share its Irish folk music. Madison Community Band will conclude the 2013 Madison Gazebo Concerts on Aug. 8.
