Salvation Army accepting back-to-school suppliesPublished 2:31pm Tuesday, July 8, 2014
MADISON COUNTY – With the start of school less than a month away, The Salvation Army is accepting donations of all types of school supplies.
“Each year, many children are in need of basic school supplies. Please consider partnering with us as we help them to be ready to succeed at school,” volunteer and special events coordinator Lydia Pennington said.
The Salvation Army is requesting book bags, notebooks, folders and three-ring binders. For writing assignments, students need writing paper, composition notebooks, pencils, pencil sharpeners and pens.
For crafts projects, students need construction paper, glue, glue sticks, markers and crayons. Other need classroom tools include rulers, scissors, erasers and ear buds.
“As you are aware, the cost of school supplies can be overwhelming to some families,” Pennington said. “The Salvation Army, with your help, is happy to be able to assist with meeting these needs.”
Residents can deliver donations to the Salvation Army office at 2114 Oakwood Ave. in Huntsville. Also, individuals can label items as “back-to-school donations” and take donations to the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 2112 Oakwood Ave. in Huntsville or 385 Hughes Road in Madison.
