BJHS grad leads UAH SGA
Ryan Schueler of Madison, a 2002 BJHS graduate, was elected SGA president earlier this year.
"I want to be an influential voice and develop my vision of SGA, working to make things happen at UAH," Schueler said.
Schueler has wanted to be a lawyer since high school. After law school, Schueler's long-range plans include starting his own law firm and running for political office.
Schueler began developing leadership ideas through his previous role as the SGA Campus Affairs chair, and through joint meetings of student government groups from other universities in the state.
One of Schueler's goals as SGA president is to have regular joint meetings of the Student Government Associations of UAH, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and the University of Alabama (UA) in Tuscaloosa. Schueler got the idea of the joint university meetings through a recent gathering of student leaders of various Alabama universities.
Schueler's additional goals for the UAH student body include: better utilization of the University Center for student meetings and events and strong SGA support for the current shuttle program, that provides students with transportation off campus.
Schueler is a new recipient of the Compass Bank Scholarship, awarded to students enrolled in the UAH College of Administrative Science, with preference given to students majoring in finance. The scholarship is based on academic merit, citizenship and leadership.
Following law school, Schueler's plans include working for a law firm for several years, and then starting his own firm. From there, he hopes to enter politics and eventually become a state senator.
Schueler is the son of Florence Black of Madison.
