Superintendent search ends Oct. 27

The Madison City Schools Board of Education will end its search for a new superintendent Oct. 27.
Board President Sue Helms said at the Oct. 5 regular meeting that 10 prospective candidates from Alabama, New York, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida and Texas have applied for the position.
A list of candidates is expected to be announced at the board's Nov. 1 meeting.
In other business:
The Madison Arts Council made a donation to each Madison City School for art education programs. Dr. Nowlin said Bob Jones High School art students received over $2 million in scholarships last year. MAC awarded $500 to BJHS, $300 to each middle school, and $150 to each elementary school.
Bob Lipinski and Nichole Makowski made a documentary presentation of the 2006 Madison City Schools Developmental Summer School Program held at BJHS with 17 students attending and at Rainbow Elementary with 25 students attending.
The board approved the distribution of 20 percent of the school system's At-Risk funds to Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Mental Health Association.
The board named Teresa Hill as Acting Chief School Financial Officer.
The board approved a change order for the Discovery Middle School addition. The school system will save $36,119 on the project.
