Madison Academy gives city a jump on holiday shopping
A local school is inviting you to experience one of Madison's best-kept holiday shopping secrets.
The Madison Academy 33rd annual Southern Tradition--A Holiday Marketplace will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the school.
"Start your holiday shopping here and you won't be sorry," LAMA committee member Cari Foscue said. "There are people lined up at the door at 9 a.m. to get in and everything goes fast. Try to get here early because it's a feeding frenzy for the most unique and amazing things. You won't believe what you'll find."
LAMA buys unique gift and home items at market to sell at a fraction of retail prices, but Foscue said the best finds are antiques re-designed by LAMA members.
"I bought my daughter's entire bedroom suit there last year," Foscue recalled. "The local talent is amazing. There are LAMA women who have literally been working on their projects since the first day of the school year."
Shoppers can also expect to find clothing, accessory and d/cor items for personalization and monogramming, one-of-a-king stocking stuffers and gourmet foods.
"Magnolia Caf/ will have tons of wonderful cakes and desserts, as well as tons of baked goods donated by parents," Foscue explained. "Some even wrap their homemade pies and gourmet brownies in Fitz and Floyd dishes to sell that way."
And while moms are shopping, Foscue said kids are invited to stay busy downstairs at a kids-only holiday carnival.
"There are games and activities for all ages to enjoy," Foscue said.
Shoppers are also invited to bid on furs, jewelry and more at the event's silent auction.
"Southern Tradition almost kicks-off the holiday season," Foscue explained. "It's a wonderful atmosphere with fun new stuff and unique items. It's all there."
All proceeds benefit education programs and needs at Madison Academy School, including funds for teachers' classroom needs.
