Local attorney to run for Congress in 2008
Bud Cramer just got some competition for his House seat.
On April 17, local attorney E. Ray McKee, Jr., announced his candidacy for the 2008 election to the House of Representatives Fifth District, a seat currently held by Cramer (D-Ala.). McKee, a Republican, holds a Ph.D in electrical engineering and is recently retired from the U.S. Government. His main platform is the enactment of the Fair Tax Bill into law.
The FairTax Plan is a nonpartisan grassroots campaign to replace the federal income tax system with a progressive national retail sales tax. It provides a "prebate" to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement and, through companion legislation, repeal of the 16th Amendment.
McKee said that he approached Cramer about the Fair Tax and the legislator rejected it. McKee was then encouraged by his family and peers to run for office.
"Our people deserve better from our Congressmen," McKee said.
