Local attorney to run for Congress in 2008

Bud Cramer just got some competition for his House seat.

On April 17, local attorney E. Ray McKee, Jr., announced his candidacy for the 2008 election to the House of Representatives Fifth District, a seat currently held by Cramer (D-Ala.). McKee, a Republican, holds a Ph.D in electrical engineering and is recently retired from the U.S. Government. His main platform is the enactment of the Fair Tax Bill into law.

"I will do everything I can to get my message out and educate people about the Fair Tax," McKee said.

The FairTax Plan is a nonpartisan grassroots campaign to replace the federal income tax system with a progressive national retail sales tax. It provides a "prebate" to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement and, through companion legislation, repeal of the 16th Amendment.

McKee said that he approached Cramer about the Fair Tax and the legislator rejected it. McKee was then encouraged by his family and peers to run for office.

"Our people deserve better from our Congressmen," McKee said.

" Thank you Mr. McKee. I like when a person stands up and demands something they believe in. You are showing what leadership is all about. SO many people would just give up and not try to correct the situation. Bless you. "

" Thank you for posting about the fairtax. I hate the income tax and needs to be abolished. The income tax is a Marxist-style tax code, and its too bad our government adapted it. Wether you agree or not, the fairtax is the way to go when it comes to our nation's economy. I believe many American companies would return back in the US to bring back more manufacturing jobs. It would be like a reverse outsource. Other than cheaper labor, American companies leave because of the IRS. Basically, that's why they have tax shelters and other schemes too avoid paying the IRS. Also Ileagal immigrants, criminals, drug dealers, foreign visitors would help contribute to the fairtax. David Tampa, FL. "
