Head Start kids get Christmas early

(Updated: Thursday, December 27, 2007 1:59 PM CST)

On Dec. 20, donations from some local organizations provided a happier Christmas for kids at the local Head Start facility for its "Breakfast with Santa" event.

A few of Santa's helpers, including Leigh Christian, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Alabama and Head Start teacher Loellis Miller, passed out toys to the children on behalf of Santa and the Madison Chamber of Commerce, along with several other organizations who donated.

"It's an opportunity to be Santa to some children who might not have Santa," said Miller. "The children are delighted and we're delighted for them."

Two bicycles were given out to a boy and a girl who won a drawing. Kennesha Waddle and Jeffrey Wiggins, both three years old, were the happy recipients of the new bikes.
