Owen's late three-pointer wraps up Sparkman win

HAZEL GREEN - Sparkman's Frankie Owens scored with 1.5 seconds remaining Tuesday to send the Senators to a 59-58 victory over Hazel Green.

Owens' 3-pointer capped a 9-2 Sparkman run that keyed the Senators' comeback.

Tevin Scruggs scored a game-high 22 points for the Senators in the win. Brian Blackmon added 13.


The Senators improved to 16-6 with the win.

Kyle Burwell scored 18 points and Darius Crutcher added 15 for Hazel Green. James Humphrey and Jeremy Crutcher finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Sparkman trailed by two with six seconds remaining and set up for Owens' final shot.

Blackmon stole Hazel Green's inbound pass to seal the win.

Hazel Green led by six points with two minutes left before the Senators climbed back into the game.

Hazel Green fell to 15-5 with the loss.

Madison Baptist 49, Providence 42

Madison Baptist secured its eighth win of the season by holding off Providence 49-42.

Matthew Pettit and George Bekken finished with 12 points each


Providence got 14-point efforts from both Steven Cummings and Caleb Stewart.

Madison Academy 65, Madison County 62

Madison Academy rallied to beat Madison County 65-62 on the road Saturday.

The Mustangs trailed by three points at the half.

Kerron Johnson scored 27 points to spark the win. Dante Bowman chipped in 11 points for the Mustangs.

Bawa Muniru added 15 rebounds.

Madison County's Terrance Nance finished with 21 points. Robert Thomas added 17 points.

Madison Academy 89, New Hope 41

Madison Academy picked up its fourth area win of the season with an easy victory over New Hope.

The Mustangs improved to 10-7 with the victory. They are 4-0 in Class 3A, Area 14 play.

New Hope's Josh Langford finished with 18 points, while Jeremy Whitaker added 10.

Madison Academy 66, Madison County 15

Madison Academy held Madison County to just 15 points on the way to its 12th win of the season.

Alissa Hargett led Madison Academy with 16 points.

Haley Stewart added 12 points, while Nyla Johnson and Lydia McGee finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Madison Academy 43. New Hope 26

Madison Academy remained unbeaten in Class 3A, Area 14 play with a win over New Hope.

Nyla Johnson topped the Lady Mustangs with 13 points.

Madison Academy improved to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in area play.

Kayla Maples had 10 points to lead New Hope.

Sparkman 56, Hazel Green 35

Danielle Vaughn had a double-double and Adrienne Webb scored a game-high 22 points in the Lady Senators' rout of Hazel Green.

Vaughn finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win, while Chatia Kelsey added 10 points.

Sparkman limited Hazel Green to just 19 points in the second half to cruise to the win.

The Lady Senators improved to 18-2 with the victory.

Jessie Clark finished with 13 points to lead Hazel Green.
