Gene E. Whitaker, 67, of Hazel Green died. Jan. 8 at his residence.

He was a retired sergeant first class with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Whitaker; two sons, John and James Whitaker; two brothers, Lamar and Franklin Whitaker; and six grandchildren.

Visitation was Jan. 11 at Hazel Green Funeral Home. The funeral was Jan. 12in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Valhalla Garden.
