John A. Hogan
The Rev. John A. Hogan, 80, of Toney died Jan. 8. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Annette Green. He received his bachelor's degree from Samford University in Birmingham and his master's degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. The Rev. Hogan served churches in Alabama since his ordination in 1949. His first two churches were rural half-time churches served simultaneously. Thereafter, he has served both inner city and suburban churches. The most recent churches served were Northside Baptist Church, Jasper; Hillview Baptist Church, Birmingham; Leighton Baptist Church, Leighton; Hopewell Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa; Boyles Baptist Church, Tarrant; Hillwood Baptist Church, Huntsville, and Mount Zion Baptist Church, Huntsville.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Vera M. Hogan; daughters, Judy Hogan Spray and husband Stephen and Jonna Hogan Anderson and Husband Greg, all of Toney; grandsons, Jared and Jacob Anderson of Toney; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Spray of Boston; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church building fund or benevolence fund.
