No. 2 Bob Jones knocks off top-ranked Sparkman, Senator boys win

Staff Reports, Madison Record

Bob Jones made a strong case for the No. 1 ranking in Class 6A after taking down Sparkman 43-40 in double overtime last Friday.

The overtime win evened the season series between the two teams. Sparkman had claimed a 45-40 victory over Bob Jones in their earlier meeting.

But this win didn't come easily for the Lady Patriots.

Bob Jones led for most of the game until the Lady Senators tied the game with less than a minute left in the game with a 3-pointer from Adrianne Webb to send it to overtime.

Webb led the Lady Senators with 20 points.

After a scoreless first overtime, Jala Harris hit two buckets in the second overtime to give the Lady Patriots a slim 39-38 advantage.

Webb, who finished with five points in overtime, added a basket to put Sparkman back in front by one at 40-39.

Again Bob Jones answered with a bucket from Kellie Cook. She added two free throws to seal the win as Bob Jones improved to 21-2 overall.

Harris finished with 20 points to lead the Lady Patriots.

Sparkman 61, Bob Jones 57

Sparkman held off a late challenge from Bob Jones when Scott Proffitt scored on a 3-pointer in overtime to seal the deal.

Sparkman improved to 17-6 overall with the victory, while Bob Jones fell to 12-7.

Proffitt finished with a team-high 20 points for Bob Jones, while Antoine Davis added 10 in the win.

Jamie Price and Brian Blackmon both finished with 14 points for the Senators. Tevin Scruggs and Frankie Owens added 13 and 10 points respectively.

After the two teams were tied late in the overtime period, Sparkman went on a 6-2 run to pull away for the overtime win.
