Sara Landman Whitworth
Sarah Landman Whitworth, 81, died March 14 at her home in Madison after a long illness. She was the founding owner and broker of Whitworth Realty established in 1975 and the owner of Whitworth gallery in Madison and worked actively in both until she was hospitalized two weeks ago. Mrs. Whitworth was born in Huntsville to the late Charles Tannock Landman and Sallie Mae Darwin Landman. Descendant of pioneer Madison County families, she was educated in Huntsville public schools and attended Auburn University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, Chi Omega sorority, the Grace Club Auxiliary, and an active member of the Madison Historical Society. She leaves two sons, Jerry Whitworth of Paris, France; Charles Whitworth and wife Sherry, of Madison, six grandchildren; Allison Godwin and husband Fred of Atlanta, Chase Whitworth, Mark Thomas Whitworth and Chad Whitworth of Auburn, Taylor Whitworth and Hunter Whitworth of Madison; as well as one great-grandson, Cooper Godwin of Atlanta. She is also survived by Thomas J. Whitworth Sr. The funeral service was held at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity with the Rev. Andy Anderson and the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home assisting the family. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sara L. Whitworth Memorial Fund of the Madison Historical Society, 112 Main St., Madison, AL 35758.
