Don Lee Marsh
Don Lee Marsh, 71, of Hillsboro died March 31 at Trinity Medical Center. Funeral services were held at Roselawn Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darryl Wood and the Rev. Mark Wakefield officiating. Burial followed the service at Decatur City Cemetery.
Mr. Marsh was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Limestone County to Floyd and Martha Drake Marsh. He grew up in Limestone and Lawrence Counties. Mr. Marsh graduated from Hazlewood High School in 1954. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a medic. After earning enough money in the Army to attend college, he graduated from the University of Alabama with bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry. He also received an educational specialist degree from the University of North Alabama. After retiring from his teaching career and suffering a stroke in 1995, he attended the Birmingham School of Law for three years. Mr. Marsh operated Marsh Tax Service for over 40 years. Tax season was one of his favorite times of the year. Mr. Marsh was a dedicated teacher who began a long teaching career at Mount Hope and Hazlewood High Schools in Lawrence County. He also taught at Decatur High School and Lee and J.O. Johnson High Schools in the Huntsville City School System. He also served two terms as mayor of Hillsboro. Mr. Marsh was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed passing his love of learning on to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Steven Marsh. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Corum Marsh of Hillsboro; sister, Carol Marsh Watt and husband Dan of Decatur; sisterin-law, Peggy Corum Freeman of Athens; daughter, Susanne Marsh Hibbard and husband Warner of Tuscaloosa; son, David Marsh and wife Karen of Moulton; daughters, Mary Virginia "Ginger" Marsh Bennett and husband Mike of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Elizabeth Marsh Trump and husband Matt of Perry Hall, Md.; grandchildren; H.D., Westlee, and John Michael Hibbard of Tuscaloosa, Olivia and Will Marsh of Moulton, and Noah and Jacob Trump of Perry Hall; nieces, Allison Watt Crow and husband Alton of Decatur, Lee Ann Freeman Jennings and husband Flint of Lacey's Spring, Heather Freeman Breedlove and husband Lance of Athens; and many cousins, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be his sonin-laws, Matt Trump, Mike Bennett, and Warner Hibbard; cousin, Billy Hagood; and friends, Jody Letson, Roger McNeese, Freddie Meadows, and Craig Terry. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Jan Draper, Dr. Gillespie and staff at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center, the CCU II Unit nurses, CCU Waiting Room Staff and Cindi Bradley, patient family representative at Huntsville Hospital, Dr. Parrish, Dr. Lapidis, Dr. Pappas, Cynthia Martin, patient family representative, and the nurses, respiratory therapists, technicians and staff at Select Specialty Hospital at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham for their compassionate care and expert treatment.
