Montevallo soccer hosting youth camp at Dublin Park
The soccer camp is for boys and girls age 7-14.
Cost of the camp is $50 per player.
Sessions for 11-14 year olds will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9-12 noon.
The event is hosted by Valley Futbol Club and proceeds benefit the University of Montevallo men’s soccer program.
Montevallo finished the 2007 season with an 18-4-2 record, setting a school mark for wins in a season.
The Falcons won the NCAA Division II South Regional championship before falling to Lincoln Memorial 1-0 in two overtimes in the NCAA Division II National Championships semifinals in Orange Beach.
Montevallo opened the season with a 17-1-1 mark on the way to the Final Four appearance. The Falcons finished the year ranked fourth in the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II national soccer rankings.
The Falcons have three players from the Madison area on their current roster - Alex Ghoja (Bob Jones High School), Nathan Archard (Grissom) and Jim Witherow (Grissom) - who will be helping to conduct the skills camp along with other Montevallo players and coaches.
Ghoja played in 20 games this season for the Falcons as a freshman.
Ghojas was an honorable mention All-State selection at Bob Jones as a senior after being named the Patriots’ team most valuable player for two straight seasons. He also played with the Valley Futbol Club for four years.
Equipment required for all camp particpants are shin guards, soccer cleats and a water bottle.
