Holcombe seeking place 1 seast on council

(Updated: Friday, June 20, 2008 2:21 PM CDT)

Madison businessman Tim Holcombe is seeking the District 1 seat on the Madison City Council. He is running against incumbent Cynthia McCollum.

Holcombe said with the influx of people coming in to the city thanks to the BRAC decisions, it’s time to plan for the future.

“I see two critical areas that will need significant focus in the coming years: the continued development of Madison’s infrastructure, to include roads and schools and the city’s active recruitment of commercial development to support our tax base,” Holcombe said. “For District 1, I’d like to see the Bradford Creek Greenway completed, as this will provide another quality of life entity and add value to our community.”

Holcombe is the marketing manager for the SunDrop/7Up Bottling Company, which distributes soft drinks, water and juice products throughout a 12 county northern Alabama region, and has been employed in this industry for more than 28 years. He hopes to put some of his public relations skills to work on the council.

“As a sales and marketing person, I see Madison with tremendous potential, since we have a great community to sell”.

Holcombe moved to Madison from Birmingham five years ago. He was instrumental in establishing the Walden Homeowners Association, of which he has served as president for the past four years. He also is president and founder of the Madison Homeowners Association Network, consisting of 39 Madison associations. The group’s goal is to facilitate the flow of pertinent information to each association’s Board of Directors.

“I would pledge to provide that same level of clear and consistent communication to the constituents of District 1,” he said.

Holcombe has also volunteered his efforts with the March of Dimes locally, and participated in fund raising for St. Jude’s Hospital.

Holcombe has been married to his wife, Sharon, for 27 years. She is a teacher in the Madison County system, and she has a total of 29 years teaching experience. He has a son, Daniel, who attends Auburn, and is in the Army Reserves with a tour in Iraq, and a daughter, Rosalie, who graduated from Bob Jones and is an art major at the University of Montevallo.
