Wann Springs work won't start until fall

(Updated: Friday, August 29, 2008 9:21 AM CDT)

Madison’s signature retail project now has a name but residents will have to wait a while longer to see construction under way.

The Wann Springs Development Group announced last week mixed-use development on County Line Road will be known as “WaterStone.”

WaterStone will include 450 acres of retail, office, medical, residential and entertainment space.

Groundbreaking on the site was scheduled for this week; however, it has been postponed until fall in order to obtain final project approval from FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Wann Springs has already invested more than $1.6 million into the project, including planning, design and engineering costs. Once complete, the project will include some three miles of roads, two bridges and an 18-acre lake.

The site has been rezoned and the city has inked its incentive deal with the developers.

Plans for the development are impacting another major project, too.

The city and the state have accelerated plans for expansion of the interchange at County Line Road and I-565. Engineering designs for the project are near completion and utility relocation and right of way acquisition are expected to begin within the next year.
