Huston tops Chickasaw - Sparkman junior sets meet record at Indian Mounds
Huston dominated the field in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational Saturday morning at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Lawrence County by posting an 18:18.40.
The Sparkman junior’s time set a meet record, breaking Jennifer Dunn’s mark set in 2006.
Sparkman’s Adrianna Poole was third overall with a time of 19:31.89.
Jessica Woods was 139th at 25:59.81, followed by Meagan Hager (150, 26:32.51) and Amber Reese (166, 27:52.09).
Sparkman’s boys - featuring five sophomores - finished 17th overall after placing three runners in the top 110 of the 5A-6A division.
Senior Justin Halley ran a 17:49.02 to finish 43rd as the Senators’ top runner.
Steven Owens, one of the five sophomores on the Sparkman roster this season, was 101st overall with a time of 19:09.12, while Blake Shull was 107th at 19:13.39.
Dylan Owens finished 217th at 21:46.20, followed by Wesley Jernigan (258, 22:48.63) and Cody Floate (285, 24:55.63).
Bob Jones strong in Clara Bowl
Bob Jones’ boys cross country team finished 25th overall at The Clara Bowl 2008 at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
Trip Richert and Max Schmidt were 126th and 127th respectively in the large school division after finishing with identical times of 18:21.
Austin Shipley ran an 18:31 to finish 144th overall, followed by Jayson Perry (154, 18:37) and Josh Soloman (165, 18:46).
Smith Colson and Jacob McClellan finished 211th and 261st respectively, but did not count in the Sparkman team score.
Colson ran a 19:09, while McClellan finished at 19:46.
The Lady Patriots finished sixth as a team in the meet after having four runners post sub-22:00 times.
Taylor Dahlgren was 19th overall with a time of 20:28 to pace the Lady Patriots, while Ashlee Stewart finished at 20:48 to take 28th place.
Also finishing in the top 100 were Carolyn Bero (62nd, 21:28), Katie Goldsmith (75th, 21:37) and Kaycee Martin (96th, 22:03).
Emily Warden and Erika Schorr finished 103rd and 110th respectively, but did not count in the Sparkman team scores.
Warden ran a 22:05, while Schorr came in at 22:10.
