Madison Academy handles Warriors to pick up victory
KK Horton ran for two touchdowns and 195 yards in the win, while Travis Eakin threw three touchdown passes for the Mustangs.
Madison Academy’s defense – led by Jake Hamlett, Bennett Smith and Brandon Pendegraft – held the Warriors to just five yards total offense in the second half.
Jared Brinson caught two touchdown passes from Eakin in the first quarter as the Mustangs opened up a 14-7 lead.
After West Point tied the game at 14 in the second quarter, Horton broke free on a 53-yard run to put the Mustangs back in front.
Jordan Matthews had a 53-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
Horton closed out the Mustangs’ scoring with a 34-yard run with 9:55 remaining in the game to give Madison Academy a 34-14 advantage.
West Point’s only touchdown in the second half came when the Warriors recovered a Madison Academy fumble in the end zone.
Sparkman 41, Hazel Green 0
Sparkman pounded winless Hazel Green with 285 yards on the ground in a 41-0 win Friday.
Antwon Thurmon ran for two touchdowns in the win.
Sparkman improved to 2-3 overall. The Senators are now 2-2 in Class 6A, Region 8 play.
Matt Bradford threw two touchdown passes to Cory Farmer to add to the Senators’ offensive attack.
Sparkman went in front early with two first-quarter touchdowns. Farmer opened the scoring when he caught his first touchdown pass four minutes into the game.
Thurmond helped the Senators extend the lead to 14-0 with a 2-yard touchdown run seven minutes later.
Farmer caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Bradford and Pearson added a 16-yard touchdown run to push the advantage to 28-0 at the half.
Thurmon and Terrance Pride ran for touchdowns in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Sparkman’s defense recorded five sacks in the win, including two from Alabama commitment Anthony Orr. The Senators limited Hazel Green to just 136 yards of total offense.
Sparkman will host Florence Friday in a Class 6A, Region 8 game.
