BJHS girls third at Jesse Owens

OAKVILLE - Bob Jones’ girls cross country team finished thrid in the Gold Elite division Saturday at the Jesse Owens Classic after placing five runners in the top 35 places.

Emily Warden led the Lady Patriots with a time of 19:51.86. Ashlee Stewart, Carolyn Bero, Kaycee Martin and Maddie Hutt all finished within 45 seconds of each other in the meet that drew more than 3,000 runners.

Sparkman’s Katie Huston was second overall in the Gold Elite division after posting a time of 18:17.44. Teammate Adrianna Poole was seventh overall at 18:56.19.


Also scoring for the Lady Senators were Jessica Thornton, Jessica Woods and Meagan Hager.

Sparkman finished 15th in the team standings.

Bob Jones was 14th in the boys’s Gold Elite division with three runners finishing under 18 minutes.

Trip Richert led the Patriots, finishing 76th with a time of 17:38.05. Austen Shipley (17:49.88) and Max Schmidt (17:56.85) were 86th and 91st overall.

Also scoring for Bob Jones was Jayson Perry and Jacob McClellan.

Sparkman’s Justin Halley ran a 17:51.57 to finish 88th overall. Blake Schull was 147th with a 19:12.91. Wesley Jernigan was 226th, followed by Cody Floate at 228.
