William Milton Downey

William Milton Downey died Nov. 8, 2008.

A highly decorated World War II veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was awarded nine Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Morgantown, W.Va., and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of the O’Siris Shriners in Wheeling, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Downey.


He is survived by his wife, Rita Jean Delmark Downey of Harvest; two daughters, Suzann Thornton and husband John of Harvest, and Nancy Bufkin and husband Robert of Monrovia; son, Rod A. Downey and wife Jeannie of Decatur; sister, Jeanne Richmond and husband Robert of Huntsville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four nieces.

Memorial services were held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Pastor Carol Simon officiating.
