Rescue mission seeks help

The Downtown Rescue Mission expects to break records for serving Thanks-giving dinners and the giving out of Thanksgiving Food Boxes to needy families. The food box contains a complete Thanksgiving family dinner including a turkey. Last year, the Downtown Rescue Mission gave away 300 turkey dinner boxes and cooked and served another 200 turkey dinners for the Great Thanksgiving Banquet 2008. This year they anticipate giving away more than 500 turkey dinner boxes and cooking another 200 dinners.

The Thanksgiving Food Boxes will be handed out at the new Downtown Rescue Mission campus at 1400 Evangel Drive Nov. 24. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. with a chapel service by Doc Overholt. At 2 p.m., the staff and volunteers will begin handing out the turkey dinner boxes. Many of the boxes are put directly into the trunks of cars because many recipients are elderly and disabled.

A donation of $19.20 provides a Thanksgiving dinner for 20 people. For information contact pat@downtownrescuemission.org.
